dreaming big...

So I'm a Gemini. Two personalities in the same person according to astrology. (That may not be completely accurate, but just go with it.) My mom always says that she doesn't believe in astrology, but if she did they would have it totally right about me. I have always been the type of person who was a little "complicated". Growing up, I was both the Math Club President AND the Prom Queen. My major in college was Drama, then I changed to Accounting...and I loved them both. I am both a dreamer and a realist. Sometimes it gets tiring being all these people. :)

The dreamer in me always wanted to have my own shop of some sort. When I was young, I worked in a locally owned bridal store in my hometown. I loved it! I got to do the window dressings, organize and play with gorgeous dresses all day, and I loved working with customers. I always dreamed that someday I would own a bridal store of my own.My whole point in studying Accounting in college was so that I could have the knowledge to someday run my own business without needing outside help.

Then the realist in me said, "hey! you know you have to have money to feed your family and pay your bills!" and so I left that dream behind. I stuck with my day job and didn't venture into the unsafe territory of owning my own business. What if I failed? What if I didn't have enough money to start? What if no one bought anything from me? The realist in my head just wouldn't let me even dream about it any more.

Recently though, the dreamer has been kicking the realist's butt. The dreamer found Etsy and Pinterest. The dreamer said "Hey! You are great at some things. You should do them!!". I started refinishing furniture and other household things from my thrifting adventures. (If you haven't checked them out, look in my past blogs for some of my recent projects) The dreamer is the one who started this blog. The dreamer realized that people like my projects and maybe, just maybe the dream of owning a shop and sharing pretty things with the world wasn't dead.

So the dreamer AND the realist opened an Etsy shop this week. The realist said is was a practical starting point with very little overhead and start up costs. (The dreamer just rolled her eyes at that!) The dreamer is thinking of all the super cool projects she can do. Stop by www.etsy.com/shop/beautyintheeveryday and see the beginnings of my dream. :)

What about you? You have a dreamer in you who needs to kick the realist's butt? What are the dreams you dreamed once upon a time? Write them down. Share them with a friend. Do something about them. I promise you will thank yourself for it. :)

peace, love, and BIG dreams!

  1. I loved reading this post. I'm so excited that the Dreamer opened an Etsy shop and I'm sure the Realist will help with the nitty gritty business side of things. P.S. Those owls are ADORABLE.
