Birth Month Day 3: B is for Books and Day 2 Recap

Welcome to Day 3...B is for Books!

Growing up an only child of book loving parents gave me a strong, intense love for books. One of my favorite things to do with my parents was to go to the mall on Friday nights and head straight for the book store. We would all separate and look for books. They would always find me surrounded by the stacks of books I NEEDED. I felt the same about the library. It was always a place full of magic and wonder. I would leave with STACKS of books on anything and everything. I could sit for hours playing in the card catalog. (Many of you may be too young to know what that it lol) I wanted to take this evening to share some of my favorite books and characters...or as I like to call them, friends, with you. Hope you remember some :)

Books I loved as a kid....
Roald Dahl is still one of my all time favorite authors. I have read the Charlie books HUNDREDS of times. James and the Giant Peach and the Twits were close seconds. His writing was so intelligent and fun...never felt like they were kids books.

Ramona Quimby somehow understood me. She was quirky, awkward and always in trouble. Like me.

One of my all time favorite series. My mom would read them to me before I was able to read. Then I read them myself. My set looked just like this...a score from a yard sale. I was thrifty even as a child.

My daughter's name actually came from this book! Of course, it's a boys name in here, but who cares. Charlotte taught me how to be kind and caring and I will always cry at the end.

I started this series with Book #1 when it first hit book stores. I was a faithful reader for years.
Judy Blume was one of my favorite authors and this was my favorite of her books. I learned about Jewish culture and life in the 1950's.

Trixie was one of my mom's favorites and she passed them on to me. The writing is old school, but great. I learned that dungarees are what they used to call jeans.

My all time favorite series though is the Chronicles of Narnia. I have read through the series almost every year since I was about 12. My set looks just like this and was a birthday gift when I was about 8. My mom read them to me and then I picked them up and never put them down. My view of Jesus has been so shaped by Aslan and I am forever grateful to CS Lewis for that.

What about you? Did you like any of these?? What others did you read?

Books I love as an adult....

[I was going to write captions about each, but for some reason every time I do everything rearranges itself. This is why I like pen and paper best.]

I have to admit, that I am one of those people that still buys paper books. I have a nook for when I travel, but I still love the feeling of having paper pages and the smell of a new book.

I have started a Pinterest board to keep track of the books that I am wanting to read. Do you have a list? What's on it? I am ALWAYS looking for recommendations. I've also recently gotten into non-fiction books. I think that means I am growing up :)

Posting these pictures is making me want to go sit in the corner with a book and a cup of hot tea, but first.....

Birth Month Day 2 Recap....
Upper left: Email from my friend, Netflix, telling me that Sherlock Season 3 is waiting for me!

Upper middle: Soy free, lactose free, fat free, ice dessert. I know that it doesn't sound great, but it didn't make my lips swell and that made it awesome.

Upper right: My beautiful peacock pen given to me by my sweet friend, Moriah. Featured behind it is my June Princess calendar :)

Middle left: My giant coffee that I got to drink after sleeping in to get rid of a headache. The sun was shining on my beautiful, colorful living room.

Middle right: Frozen soundtrack for my drive to work

Bottom left: Pink on Pink on Pink....fluorescent pink pants that I think could be seen from space and glittery shoes for my Day 2 Fashion Diaries.

Bottom middle: Lunch time sketching and birth month planning that led to a blog talk and dreaming big with my friend, Sammi.

Bottom right: A sweet note left from old friends who stopped by my desk to see me.

My cup runneth over.

Make sure to leave me a comment on your favorite books and what you are looking forward to reading!!

See you tomorrow for C and Day 3 recap :)

  2. Ummm...I think we had the same exact childhood. Or at least, the same exact book collection! You have impeccable taste in books, my dear. Truly! And can you believe I have never read Francine Rivers? Must rectify that situation STAT.
